The PHEW! Olympic legacy project is back. PHEW! gives you a chance to try new activities for free. You can have a go or find out more without feeling that you have to sign up for anything. With events suitable for individuals and families it's your chance to get more active, make new friends and have fun. PHEW! runs from July to September.
PHEW! stands for Participation, Health, Exercise and Well-being. We want to keep some of the energy and fun of the 2012 Olympics by giving people a chance to have a go at something new. Clubs from across the area are joining us by running free taster sessions, demonstrations or open days. There's still time for you to join us. It doesn't have to be a sport - anything that gets people up and active can be part of PHEW! How could your club take part? Get in touch.
Starting as an idea from the village of Oaksey it's now spread to cover the whole Malmesbury and the Villages community area. Wiltshire councillor John Thompson, Chairman of the Malmesbury Area Board who fund PHEW!, said: “PHEW! perfectly illustrates how the Olympic legacy can and should work at community level". Last year we had more than sixty events - we're hoping for more this year.
PHEW! is run by local community development charity MVCAP (Malmesbury and the Villages Community Area Partnership). We are working to improve the local environment, promote healthy living, and to encourage public involvement in local decision making and community safety. We also give practical help to local charities and voluntary groups. All our work is about making our communities better places to live.

What do you have to do?
You've got several options. Firstly we're putting on a showcase of activities across July, August and September. We're asking you to hold a free open day, taster session or demonstration to show off what's great about what you do. If you're already planning something, that's great. Just give us the details and we'll help you with getting the message out. Secondly we're producing a guide to sports and activities in the Malmesbury and the Villages area. We're asking you to place an advert for your club. If you're a not-for-profit club a half-page advert is free. If you're a business there's a small charge to help to cover the costs. A full page advert costs a little bit extra. An electronic version of the guide will go to over 1,000 individuals and groups in the area. It will also be promoted using social media and it'll be available for download through several popular websites. We'll also have at least 200 copies printed and distributed to public places such as shops, cafes, libraries, and doctors & dentists waiting rooms. Lastly we can create a free website for your group if you don't already have one. This will be a simple "poster on the web" with details about who you are, what you do, and how to get in touch. If you want to place an advert in the guide or have a free website we can help you with the design, layout and wording so please get in touch |
