A big PHEW! welcome to Oaksey Park Golf Course who are our newest participants. They're having an open day this Saturday.
There's been a great turnout for the first events of the PHEW! season. VicFest and Sherston Boules were a big success and the archaeological walk was fully booked. Now you've watched Boules you can try it for yourself with the open sessions at Boules at the Bull and Upper Thames Boules clubs. If you prefer the more local version you can also have a go at Bowls at Malmesbury Bowls & Social Club.
Also coming up over the next few weeks are free horse riding taster sessions, a six-a-side football competition to watch, a big cycling event in Sherston with free training for young people, and some free sporting classes for young people during the school holidays including some activities for young people with disabilities. What will you do? p.s. Don't forget - most PHEW! events are completely free Malmesbury Cricket Club will be running a Summer Cricket Camp in August from 25th-28th at The Wortheys Ground
see: http://www.malmesburycricket.org.uk We saw the first events in this years programme over the last week with open sessions at Malmesbury Bowls & Social Club and Boules at the Bull. The big event of the weekend was Malmesbury Victoria FC's VicFest which was really popular and raised a lot of money to support the club.
coming up this week there are more open sessions, an archaeological guided walk and Sherston's Boules day and Tug-of-War over the weekend. Sportivate Funding is Open!
Active Gloucestershire have funding available for organisations who are able to deliver sessions that will give 11-25 year olds the opportunity to participate in a new sport or exercise. We are expecting to fund a wide range of activities across the county. Sportivate funding is a national £56 million Lottery funded London 2012 legacy project that gives more young people the chance to discover a sport that they love, from April 2011 - March 2017. The funding available can help pay for coaches, equipment, venue costs, marketing, coach education or incentives to encourage participants to continue participating in the sport. Sportivate will fund 6-8 sessions after which there must be an opportunity for participants to continue with regular activity. During the six weeks those taking part can work towards an event or personal challenge, with the aim of delivery organisations retaining participants across at least 5 of the 6 sessions. The deadline for applications is Monday 14th July 2014.
